Jurong Eco-Garden – Practically A Road Trip
When The Wong Dogs first knew
that the Jurong Eco-Garden was opened to the public earlier in May, we
were excited. Hey, that means the boys can now check out a new place.
Located
within CleanTech Park, the Jurong Eco-Garden was previously part of a secondary
forest and now sits prettily beside the towering research centre dedicated to
sustainable solutions.
More than just a site to promote green spaces in
Singapore, the park also serves to be an important stop for migratory birds.
Sources have told me that in
their excitement to pay the newest garden a visit, dog groups such as Jack
Russell Mania have already had their a gathering awhile back.

This is art? But is Jurong Eco-Garden worth visiting for pet owners who just want to do their own thing? |
THE WONG DOGS REVIEW
At first, I thought distance was
not a viable reason to discount the place. But unless you work at the nearby
industrial park or a student at the nearby NTU, you most likely will only make
this a one-time visit to check what all the fuss is about (the Jurong
Eco-Garden had heavy coverage in the newspapers twice). Even pet owners living
in the west would be hard pressed to visit the park regularly. When The Wong
Dogs paid the park a visit, it was practically empty! Surprisingly, it was
reported the park saw a daily stream of visitors and there are plans to have more
activities within the garden.
Another reason that would have me
not coming back again is the lack of a proper car park. Drivers can either park
along the main road or a dirt track that can fit a maximum of four cars. With Jurong
Eco-Garden being relatively quiet, there are also no F&B options which made
us want to scamper off for some food after a while.
However, pet owners who need a
respite from the bustle of city life will appreciate the serenity of the place. Also, there are a couple of interesting sculptures and architecture that design buffs will lap up.
Also, the lack of a huge human presence, the soft bubbling of the nearby stream
will put any stressed-out city-dweller at ease – something that is harder to
enjoy at the bigger, more popular Gardens By The Bay.
