House Guest – Charcoal, the Miniature Schnauzer
Just last month, Cory and Cole had a tiny house guest
scampering about for about three days. Introducing Charcoal! A black Miniature
Schnauzer who is one cheeky little fella!
The first time dog-sitting for an extended period of time, I
realised something very important which some pet owners might not understand –
the addition of a third dog. To me, it reaffirmed my stance that I am definitely stopping at
two. Unless you are someone who can spend the better part of the day attending
to their every need, the human in you will start feeling like somebody (yes, the
dogs) will start to feel neglected soon.
Some people say you can have too many dogs. But in my opinion, there is no special number and lies solely in the eyes of the beholder.
In any case, it was actually quite cute seeing The Wong Dogs
get jealous of Charcoal! Especially when this newcomer demanded your undivided attention with
his high-pitched barks. We hope to see you soon, Charcoal!

Treat Of The Week: Fetch Box – Exclusive Marvel Comics Box
Many people know I am a huge
Marvel Comics buff. Seriously, ask me anything from the X-Men and The Avengers
and a few minutes later, you will get mere mortals going, “Okay okay! Why are
these comics so complicated??”
That aside, when Fetch Box (who previously had their Burt's Bees package) decide
to have an exclusive box of Marvel Comics dog toys, I knew Cory and Cole had to
get their very own! When I opened them, they seem larger than what was depicted
on the website. Oh well, all the better for the boys.
Initially, I wanted to
photograph Cory and Cole playing with them at a field. But due to the wet
weather the past few days, it seems we just have to make do with home-styled
shots.
It seems while Cory preferred the
Captain America and The Hulk Tug toys, Cole seems to be rather more intrigued
by the Spider Man Bottle Stuffer. In fact, the boys seem to love cuddling them
more then chomping the toys down to bits. What I loved is these canine toys
were actually sturdy to last Cole! That Singapore Special goes through normal
chew toys within minutes. Given, it is not made of KONG material, but hey,
these hold up pretty well.
Packed neatly in Fetch Box’s
classy signature paper lunch box, every set retails at $42.90. Not the cheapest
around, it is expected since these Marvel Comics dog toys are imported from the
United States. Another point to note is these playthings are exclusive to Fetch
Box and can only be purchase if you order your own set. Oh, and each Exclusive
Marvel Comics Box now comes with the latest treats from Old Mother Hubbard!
For more information on Fetch Box’s
exclusive toys, visit their website here. You can also check out there Facebook page here.

Save Our Street Dogs Flag Day 2014 Is Back!
Come 9 November, Save Our Street Dogs(SOSD) will be heading back to SCAPE for their Flag Day! This time, The Wong
Dogs will be involved as full-time volunteers and it is our way for Cole to
give back a little to his home shelter. Yes, Cole was under the care of SOSD
volunteers before he came to me.
This year’s theme is called ‘A New Start’ and
it signifies SOSD’s seemingly never-ending work in the rescue of Singapore’s
strays, with a hope that they are given a chance at a start for a better life.
We hope to see all our friends
taking part in this meaningful event!

Treat Of The Week - Absolute Plus Coconut Oil for Pets
A couple of months ago, I started
to realise that Cole was having extremely flaky skin. Each scratch saw his black
coat covered in flakes of snow-like dandruff. Even the
vet-approved shampoo made the situation worse and I was desperate for a
solution. After getting opinions from a couple of friends and pet food
nutritionists, I was introduced to the idea of feeding him coconut oil to
alleviate Cole’s symptoms.

With coconut oil being a rich source of medium chain essential fatty acids, his skin started becoming more moisturised and his coat
gleamed like never before. A side effect was also the absence of what I would
like to call “big dog smell” and I kept thinking he did not need a bath (though
after two weeks, he sure needed one). Upon the advice from a couple of dog
breeders, I also started applying it to his coat and the compliments to how
Cole looked was endless. It was also during this time that I realised many homemade pet treats and bakeries also added coconut oil into their products.
As for Cory, this little tyke has
somewhat of a weak stomach, puking once in a while. But after being fed coconut
oil for two weeks, he has not vomited since.
There have also been claims that coconut
oil reduces the risk of cancer but have not been fully researched yet. Some
experts have also told me that coconut oil is ideal in boosting a dog’s
metabolism and keeping their weight under control. However, a couple of veterinarians advise against giving more than the recommended dosage as it could result in unhealthy weight gain - especially for inactive dogs.
THE WONG DOGS REVIEW
Okay, this is not really a treat
where I can decide when to give the boys. I truly believe that coconut oil
should supplement a dog’s meal. With so many benefits, it is hard to withhold it
from them – especially when they get so excited during meal times.
Cory and Cole recently started
their daily intake of Absolute Plus Coconut Oil for Pets from B2K Pet Products and I can definitely
say in the case of Cole, he is more excitable for his meals now. Yes, that
bugger of a Singapore Special has a slightly spoiled streak and has been known
to reject dry food when he is not in the mood. Due to the weather, I also realised a couple of hot spots on Cole which disappeared in a day when I applied Absolute Plus Coconut Oil for Pets.
Besides the expected gleaming coat and better digestion, I used the coconut oil to moisturise both Cory and Cole's paws due to them walking onpavements more often than soft grass.
Besides the expected gleaming coat and better digestion, I used the coconut oil to moisturise both Cory and Cole's paws due to them walking onpavements more often than soft grass.
A side effect I
realised is Cory being more agile than usual. Due to his minor limb issues, he
tends to “rabbit hop” now and then. A little research unveiled that
coconut oil is able to alleviate certain cases of arthritis and could possibly
have contributed to his recent level of activeness.
Unlike their previous bottle of coconut oil,
Absolute Plus’s contains raw virgin coconut oil, cold-pressed and 100%
organic. This means I have ease of mind that Absolute Plus Coconut Oil is a
rich and premium choice which has not been bleached, deodorised or refined.
Also, it being cold-pressed allows the coconut oil to be produced via a heat-controlled
environment, allowing it to retain the nutritional benefits which are otherwise
compromised due to high temperatures.

A Trip Down Memory Lane - Their First Day
"When the Dogs Of Instagram Singapore introduced their very first hash tag photo theme, I found myself going through past pictures of the two boys. Besides finding the need to properly catalog most of the pictures, the little exercise brought me on a little trip down memory lane. When I first got Cory, a dear friend gave me some very sound advice, "Make sure you take as many pictures of him when he is still a pup. The months will fly past!" With that, one can definitely see the influx of puppy pictures on my personal Facebook profile and Instagram back in 2011 (and the later part of 2013 thanks to Cole).
Spend a little time and scroll through the number of pictures that you have taken with your furkids. A smile will definitely appear at some point. Imagine - if you have so much more material to scroll through?"
You can see more pictures of The Wong Dogs on the Facebook page and my Instagram feed.

Cole Turns 1
My dear Singapore Special, Cole turned 1 on 29 April 2014. In celebration, he had free reign over what he wanted to eat - from what i heard, he took at least 15 meatballs along with a mighty selection of pastries and cupcakes.
A huge shout out to the ladies at Paw Pet-radise Cafe who planned, baked and cooked everything! Definitely the ideal place to hold a paw-party!
Cole was adopted 5 August 2013 from Save Our StreetDogs SOSD . The past nine months just flew past like that! If it was not for a shoot with pets, I would never have gotten to meet this jet-black canine and actually consider getting a second dog.
Eager to please, this endearing fella made his puppy months feel like a breeze! Props to Vivien Chin for giving Cole such a solid foundation and fostering him so well. I can't thank you enough.
