Their First Media Event – Wagging Rights Launch
The Wong Dogs went for their first media event hosted by Wagging Rights (the latest state-of-the-art daycare and grooming facility) and realised... it is very different when you attend a media event with your furkids.
Instead of spending
the entire time mingling with other guests, I spent a good portion checking on
Cory and Cole in the play area.
Those two were not their usual selves and were
constantly trying to get my attention during lunch. With these two not on their best behaviour, it was a miracle I still managed to get a few snapshots with a friend!
Props to Wagging
Rights who made such a delicious lunch (I had two portions!) for the human
guests while packing home-cooked meals for our canines!
Before I would let the
pictures do the talking, here are five questions The Wong Dogs asked owner Lu-Yi
Ong on her new establishment:
- The
shop front and interior is so unique and comfortable. Much like a
home-setting. Who came up with the design and what was the inspiration?
I did! My own home is pretty
modern and with Joo Chiat steeped in rich history and culture, I decided to go
more eclectic and “old school”.
- The
puppy playground is deemed the number one equipment in dog care facilities
in the United States. What makes it so?
It has the proper grip and
height for off-leash play. It is also made from a single mould so pee won’t be
able tp seep through.
- Your profession previously is a lawyer. How different or similar is running Wagging Rights? More similarities than you think! My background was in litigation and with starting up Wagging Rights, it allows me to meet a diverse range of clients who have problems that need solving. Both professions require an ability to listen, tailor a practical solution with a cool, calm head no matter the situation.
- Wagging
Rights has a Get Fit programme. Tell us more about this.
It is still in the works and we have not officially
launched it yet. When it is ready, it will be vet-approved. I believe in
emphasising on the word, “Fit” as it is not just about losing weight.
- You
brought in Michelle Chan of Pup Pup “N” Away to train your partners in all
ways dog behaviour-related. How did you decide that she was the perfect
fit?
I have attended some
of her classes and my partners have known her for years. We like the results that
Positive Reward Training has and she is a great proponent of this method.
Again, thanks Wagging
Rights for the very generous invite and goodie bag at the end.
Currently, there is a promotion happening where there is a FREE Doggy Daycare Trial. Cory and Cole might be taking it up soon so watch this space for updates!

3 Reasons Why You Should Be Blending Your Pet’s Shampoo
| Awesome Pawsome uses Prunus shampoo. But you can use your preferred brand too. |
It has been a good four months
since we recognised Awesome Pawsome as the official groomer for The Wong Dogs, and we couldn't be happier! One interesting step that groomer, Ian Wong does is the blending of the shampoo
solution before each wash. Apparently there is more to this step than it looks.
Here are three reasons why you
should be diluting and if possible blending your furkid’s shampoo before their
bath:
- Undiluted shampoo have been known to weaken a dog’s skin, while causing itchiness and canine keratosis (an over-production of protein that causes acne or dry skin).
- Blending creates a bubbly consistency, making it easier to spread across your pet’s body.
- The shampoo’s micro-foam releases the properties of the shampoo, providing a more thorough cleanse.
It does seem that such a method
also keeps Cory smelling fresh for a longer period of time (six days to be exact). Yes, there is the
extra prep work, and do I really want to invest in a special blender for them?
Decisions, decisions. For now, let’s start with the diluting, shall we?

Cory's Clean Up: Awesome Pawsome
Miniature Schnauzers are relatively low maintenance dogs to
keep, right? They don’t eat much (a 12kg bag of kibble can last Cory three
months) and they definitely do not shed. But one of the must-dos which this
breed needs: Grooming.
Cory usually starts to look messy one and a half months after a full groom but I ‘tahan’ for a full two months before I cannot bear having a walking carpet around my house! :p
Since the human a.k.a. me is a creature of comfort and
convenience, I dislike changing groomers and rather stick to one and be done
with it. But with the many negative experiences which do not seem to tally with
the grooming charge, cab fares and irregular waiting times, I was starting to
get extremely irritated. How can I not be when you find out the groom wasn’t
done properly (one experience had me spending a full four hours at the store!)
or being returned a damp Cory who was still shivering? We can go on forever but
let’s save the ranting for another day.
After relating Cory’s grooming woes to a friend, I was
introduced to Awesome Pawsome, a mobile house-call grooming service. Since The
Wong Dogs was about to be launched, why not try something new? Remember the
following pictures? Awesome Pawsome was responsible in getting the boys ready
for their pictures to be taken!
Awesome Pawsome might not be the only mobile grooming
service around, but what I cannot deny is their dedication towards their job in
getting their furry customers looking their best. With experience comes a quick
hand and seeing groomer, Ian Wong swiftly snipping away, the trimming is over
before you know it!
One of the most interesting things I have seen is Ian
bringing a blender to prepare a special shampoo for Cory. Ian tells me there is
a very good reason for this, “Blending the solution creates a bubbly
consistency where the micro-foam releases the properties of the shampoo. This
provides a better over-all cleanse.”
Tip: Never use shampoo directly. The skin of dogs is weak
and when the solution is concentrated, can cause itchy skin and canine
keratosis.
Lastly, I love the peace of mind I have each time
Cory is groomed at home. Mobile grooming services such as Awesome Pawsome never
need to worry about coming into contact with parasites such as ticks and fleas!
But what about the price you say? Yes, mobile grooming is pricier but let’s
look at this way – With my furkid being groomed at home, I enjoy the luxury of
not needing to book a cab which definitely saves me the hassle. Even if you
drive, you will save more in petrol fees and throes of finding a parking lot!
Awesome Pawsome caters to a wide array of customers though
it seems their services are most popular with Golden Retrievers and Miniature
Schnauzers. Recently, the mobile grooming service has expanded and now take in
feline customers as well. “Most cats are generally unpredictable and can be
much more dangerous to groom due to their dislike for water, making showering a
difficult task,” says Ian.
