Wicked Nougat - Bah Zhang Pawradise
Unlike a number of pet owners, my idea of enjoying the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival is not to head down to a Dragon Boat race that have tons of people packed together spreading their morning pheromones. Instead, I rather be by the pool or park enjoying my ‘bah zhang’ (rice dumplings). Now, here is the thing, do you have issues with Fido jumping at your delicious nonya rice dumplings? Then it is high time your dog got to partake in some ‘bah zhang’ too!
Before you think I am going to suggest you let Rover (ARE YOU CRAZY??) have a portion, fret not. I don’t think I am that desperate yet. So here comes along Wicked Nougat who has come up with a range of doggy dumplings. With choice human-grade meats that include pork, chicken, mutton and salmon/dory, Starrie, the owner of Wicked Nougat assures me that their rice dumplings are free of preservatives, seasoning and sugar. I did my ‘human taste test’ just to double-confirm her claims.
“I know of some pet owners who want to celebrate the festival together so I started making these doggy versions of our dumplings as our canines cannot eat glutinous rice,” says Starrie. Instead of conventional grains, organic brown rice is used while using rolled oats to get everything to bind together.
Upon bringing the dumplings back, Cory and Cole kept hounding me non-stop, insisting I unpack it for them immediately. Getting them to pose patiently for their delicious-looking treats was proving to be quite the exasperating experience (half an hour for those pictures!).
During plating, I discovered generous portions of my chosen meats along with nutritious sweet potatoes (rich in amino acids and aids in proper digestion), carrots (high in beta-carotene) and pumpkin (packed with antioxidants and like sweet potato, aids in digestion). Looking at these ingredients, it answered my initial concern on how the rice Cory and Cole are currently chomping on will be digested.
Both Cory and Cole finished their portions in 10 seconds tops and were begging for more (Sorry boys, your furkid friends Sam Forrest Loo Lim, Pecan, Jäger and Buxley need to partake in the goodies too!) and gave disapproving looks as I stored the remainder in the freezer.
Wicked Nougat’s Doggy Dumplings can be conveniently heated up by popping them into a steamer for 10 to 15 minutes prior to serving your impatient furkid.
Wicked Nougat revealed that there are plans to include more interesting selects (I heard hushed whispers of Doggy Ice Cream Tarts) under the Wicked Nougat brand.
